REF: Masonic Lodge Zone Change Approved by Urban County Council Palomar Hills Community Family, Our yearlong effort to have a voice in the future development of the former “Masonic Lodge” property was rewarded on Tuesday night, April 12 when the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council voted unanimously for the zone change with conditions sought by our neighborhood and the developers. This zone change ensures the future development, which includes single-family/townhome residential and commercial connecting to the Fountains at Palomar, will be compatible to our existing neighborhood. The Palomar family stood strong to protect the unique character of our community! Before a packed council chambers on Tuesday night, numerous council members were complimentary of the communication, engagement and compromise the developers and neighborhood displayed to reach our desired objective with the city. To quote one council member, “your neighborhood has set the example on how the planning process should work.” Our neighbors had the opportunity to participate at all steps along the way. In the past year many of you have committed precious time to voice your opinion and contribute ideas and suggestions to this effort. We are grateful for your involvement in guiding and defining the future of our neighborhood. Palomar Strong! Sincerely, Palomar Hills Board of Directors Palomar Hills Community Association, Inc. 859-223-3740 Read more on the Lexington Herald Leader.

I'm delighted that so many people came out to support this zone change. This is Democracy at work where unfortunately mob rule trumps principled decision making.
