Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two, three, or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball, over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports; the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, a net and rules similar to tennis, with a few modifications. Pickleball was invented in the mid-1960's and has become very popular among adults. Weather permitting, there will be a Pickleball Open House on Saturday, May 12th, 2PM at the Palomar Hills Tennis & Pickleball Courts. Paddles and balls will be provided along with instruction on the basics. Please contact Peter Woollam at 859.489.7507 with questions. The monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for April 16th, 7pm at the Clubhouse. Councilmember Amanda Bledsoe will be in attendance to listen to homeowner concerns about the "Fountains at Palomar" development. Agenda: Liability Insurance - Palomar Piranhas - Committee Reports - Modification Requests. Quarterly Fees of $180 were due on Sunday, April 1st. There is a mail slot located in the front door of the clubhouse so that payments can be dropped off after hours. Credit card payments are accepted via our website www.palomarhills.com by clicking on the “Pay Dues” icon. Payments must be received by April 15th to avoid a late fee. There are not specific requirements to be a member and the amount of time devoted depends on your level of interest. Board members must consider the Community and not have a specific agenda. You will have input in creating a budget, non-compliance and violations, delinquencies, generate resolutions and oversee committees. Seven of your neighbors comprise the Board. There will be three seats open this summer. If you would like to be a candidate, please submit your resume to the Clubhouse by May 11th. Neighborhood Presidents will conduct interviews and hold an election in June. Find Us on Facebook and Twitter - "Like" us on Facebook and "follow" us on Twitter. We would like to thank Tara Combs for her years of service as Neighborhood President of the Villas! She has resigned her position and will be greatly missed. Eight neighborhoods comprise Palomar Hills: Crossings, Glades, Greens, Meadows, Olde Bridge Estates, Townhomes, Villas, and Woods. Each neighborhood may elect a slate of officers, including president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer, though most elect only a president. Typically, the president is the most active of the officers. He or she attends board meetings to voice questions or concerns peculiar to his or her neighborhoods and to stay abreast of issues and decisions facing Palomar Hills. Neighborhood presidents also participate in board work sessions, which are held on an as-needed basis, and help to develop the annual budget. One of the most important duties of a neighborhood president is electing new board members. The presidents, or "voting members" as they are called in the green book, review resumes of prospective board members then interview and vote on the candidates. The election is held in June each year. Residents may contact their neighborhood president to offer input about board candidates. If you are interested in running for Neighborhood President of the Villas, please email your resume to admin@paloamrhills.com. Help Wanted All kids social events are planned and organized by volunteers. Without volunteers there will be no socials.
