Tennis Court Construction

3/9/2017

Picture

Reconstruction of the tennis and basketball courts will begin on Thursday, March 10th!  Originally constructed in 1987, the tennis and basketball courts will be removed and replaced with an all new asphalt surface. Additionally, two light poles will be removed and remaining poles painted.  All new posts, nets, and basketball goals will be installed, as well as, two tennis courts painted with pickleball lines; which can accommodate play of either tennis or pickleball.

For your safety, we ask that residents, along with their children and pets, please stay away from the park while construction is underway.   There will be heavy machinery in and out of the area which could be dangerous for pedestrians on the walking path and playground.

The project is quite extensive and will take a couple of months to complete.  Weather permitting, we hope to have the courts open by Memorial Day weekend.   After completion, we will host an Open House for residents to meet our tennis pro and try out the new facilities.

Thank you for your patience as we undertake this restoration project!   This much-needed improvement to the neighborhood will be used by both adults and children for years to come!  If you have questions or want to hear more about the project, please join us on Monday, March 20th at 7 p.m. in the clubhouse for the next Board of Directors meeting.

The Palomar Piranhas Need YOU!

The Palomar Piranhas invited kids ages 4 through 18 to become a part of the 2017 summer swim team! This volunteer-run team provides a fun, competitive environment for summer swimmers. We promote healthy competition, sportsmanship and teamwork. Palomar swimmers will gain lifelong friendships and memories as well as a love of swimming. Any child who lives in Palomar Hills neighborhood and can swim the length of the pool (25 yards) is encouraged to sign up regardless of age, ability, skill or experience.

Registration is now open to Palomar residents and returning swimmers. Registration will remain open only until we reach our maximum capacity of 150 swimmers (which we have reached the past several years), so register today. All registration will be done online this year at
www.palomarswimteam.com. Please note that the registration system will NOT work on phones or tablets.

Children ages 4-6 who are not quite ready for the regular swim team can sign up for our Mini Piranhas program. Children will meet twice weekly for lessons on basic swimming skills. There is no requirement for Mini Piranhas to be able to swim the length of the pool or to compete in meets. Mini Piranhas will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays either in the morning or evening. You must choose one upon registration, and times are not interchangeable. There are 20 morning spots and 8 evening spots.

Our head coach this year is Collier Witt, a familiar face to returning swimmers. Collier has been with the Palomar Piranhas since he was five years old – first as a swimmer and then as an assistant coach for the past several years – and will now assume the responsiblities of head coach. We are excited to welcome Collier to his new role!

The Piranhas are a member of the Man-O-War Swim Conference. Our season begins in late May and runs through mid-July. Practices are offered five days a week , with one swim meet a week held on Wednesday evenings and a championship meet held in July.

To learn more about the Palomar Piranhas, go to www.palomarswimteam.com and plan to attend our Open House on March 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the Palomar Hills Clubhouse. For further information or questions, feel free to email Cindy White, Piranhas board president, at palomarswim@gmail.com.
